Can you buy a Xiaomi SU7 in the UK?
Last updated: · Unofficial, not affiliated with Xiaomi
Only as a private import. Xiaomi does not sell the SU7 in the UK and has not announced a UK date; the only European market it has named is Germany, from 2027. A private buyer can register a Chinese-market SU7 through Individual Vehicle Approval (the basic IVA test for a personal import costs £199), and the car stays left-hand drive. It pays 10% import duty on the car plus shipping, then 20% VAT on top of that. At the 25 September 2026 exchange rate an SU7 Max (£33,709 in China) lands at about £47,335 before any conversion work or dealer margin.

Xiaomi's UK plans
None announced. At IFA Berlin on 3 September 2026 Xiaomi confirmed a 2027 European launch and signed memoranda with eight German dealer groups (Ernst Dello, Autohaus Dinnebier, Emil Frey Germany, Fett & Wirtz, Hahn Automobile, LUEG Mobility, Penske-Jacobs Innovation and SPT Avior). The UK was not mentioned, and Xiaomi has not said whether a right-hand-drive SU7 is planned.
How a private import is taxed
The UK tariff for new battery-electric cars (commodity 8703 80 10 10) is the 10% third-country rate; there is no preference for China. The 0% suspension listed under the same code since 18 July 2025 applies only to ambulances.
Duty is charged on the customs value, which includes shipping to the UK. Import VAT of 20% is then charged on that value plus the duty. For an SU7 Max that means £3,571 of duty and £7,856 of VAT at today's rate.
Getting it on the road: IVA
A car first registered or built less than 10 years ago needs vehicle approval before DVLA will register it. Cars that were never EU-approved, like a Chinese-market SU7, go through Individual Vehicle Approval.
DVSA's statutory basic IVA covers personal imports (class P) and left-hand-drive vehicles (class N). The inspection costs £199 in working hours or £294 outside them, and a re-test £40. Any work needed to pass the inspection is extra and is not included in our estimate.
Living with a left-hand-drive SU7
IVA has a dedicated class for left-hand-drive cars, so the steering position alone does not stop registration. The practical issues are elsewhere: a Chinese-market car has a GB/T charging socket, not the CCS2 standard used on European public chargers, and the Chinese factory warranty does not transfer.
Vehicle tax for a zero-emission car is £10 in the first year and £200 a year after that. An electric car with a list price over £50,000 also pays the £440 "expensive car" supplement for five years.

UK grey-market prices
We found no reliable public UK asking price for an imported SU7 as of 28 September 2026. Some listing sites quote pound prices where the SU7 Ultra is cheaper than the Max, which is not credible, so we do not repeat them.
For comparison, German importer Auto China lists the SU7 Max from €57,060 delivered to Germany (July 2026).
Xiaomi SU7 in United Kingdom: FAQ
- Can you buy a Xiaomi SU7 in the UK?
- Not from Xiaomi. The SU7 is sold only in China and Xiaomi has not announced a UK launch. A private import registered through IVA is legal.
- When will the Xiaomi SU7 launch in the UK?
- No date. Xiaomi has confirmed Europe for 2027 and named only Germany so far (IFA Berlin, 3 September 2026).
- How much does it cost to import a Xiaomi SU7 to the UK?
- At 25 September 2026 rates, an SU7 Max comes to about £47,335 and an SU7 Standard about £36,949, including shipping, 10% duty, 20% VAT and the £199 basic IVA fee. Conversion work and dealer margin are extra.
- Is a left-hand-drive Xiaomi SU7 legal in the UK?
- Yes. DVSA runs a basic IVA class for left-hand-drive vehicles, so it can be registered once it passes. The Chinese GB/T charging socket is the bigger practical problem.
