Can you buy a Xiaomi SU7 in India?
Last updated: · Unofficial, not affiliated with Xiaomi
No. Xiaomi showed the SU7 in Bengaluru in July 2024 but said it was brought "solely for showcase purposes" and "is not for sale in the Indian market". India's import policy requires new cars to have right-hand steering and controls, and every SU7 is a left-hand-drive Chinese-market car, so a private import cannot be registered. Even if it could, a fully built car with a CIF value over US$40,000 pays about 110% in customs duty (70% basic duty plus 40% AIDC) and 5% GST, which would put an SU7 Max (₹4,280,444) at roughly ₹9,998,263.

Xiaomi's position in India
Xiaomi displayed the SU7 in Bengaluru in July 2024, alongside its phones and appliances. Its statement: "The SU7 was brought to India solely for showcase purposes. It is not for sale in the Indian market." (Bizz Buzz, 10 July 2024.) No Indian launch has been announced since; Xiaomi's only announced overseas car launch is Europe in 2027.
The right-hand-drive rule
The import licensing notes to Chapter 87 of India's ITC(HS) classification require imported new vehicles to have right-hand steering and controls. DGFT Policy Circular 10/2004-2009 (30 November 2004) allows left-hand-drive new cars only for manufacturers' research and development, and those cars must stay off the road and cannot be registered.
A left-hand-drive SU7 fails that condition before any tax is assessed, which makes the duty question academic for a private buyer.
What the duty would be
Budget 2025 cut basic customs duty on fully built cars with a CIF value above US$40,000 from 125% to 70%, removed the 10% social welfare surcharge, and added a 40% Agriculture Infrastructure and Development Cess, leaving the effective rate at about 110% (Autocar Professional, 3 February 2025).
We could not confirm the current rate for cars under US$40,000 CIF from an official or trade source, so the calculator uses the 110% tier for every trim; an SU7 Standard (₹3,281,340 plus shipping) sits below that threshold.
The GST Council kept electric cars at 5% GST under the new rate structure from 22 September 2025. On import it is charged on the CIF value plus customs duty.
Estimated landed cost in India
Hypothetical: the SU7 cannot be registered in India because it is left-hand drive. Uses the over-US$40,000 duty tier for every trim.
Inputs: BCD 70% + AIDC 40% (CIF over US$40,000) 110% on CIF value; GST (EV rate) 5%; ECB exchange rate of 2026-09-25; shipping from Welltrans Logistics, Car Shipping Cost from China in 2026.

None found. Because a left-hand-drive car cannot be registered, there is no legal grey market for the SU7 in India.
