Last updated: · Unofficial, not affiliated with Xiaomi

In China the Xiaomi YU7 is cheaper than the Tesla Model Y in every matched class, by ¥30,000 to ¥39,100: the YU7 Standard is ¥233,500 against ¥263,500 for the entry Model Y, and is rated 643 km CLTC against 593 km. The YU7 Max (¥329,900, 3.23 s to 100 km/h) beats the Model Y Performance (¥369,000, 3.5 s) on price, range and acceleration. Tesla is quicker only in the rear-drive long-range class (5.6 s against 5.88 s). (The YU7 Pro and Max prices are their June 2025 launch prices.) Imported to Germany the order flips: the EU's countervailing duty on China-built cars is 35.3% for Xiaomi and 7.8% for Tesla, on top of the usual 10%.

Tesla Model Y prices and range in China

Tesla China sells five Model Y versions. The table lists the price, CLTC range and 0–100 km/h time that Tesla's own configurator showed on 2026-09-29, together with the real-world range our model gives for the same CLTC figure at 110 km/h and 20 °C. The Model Y L is the six-seat, longer version; the others are the standard five-seat Model Y.

YU7 vs Model Y, version by version

In the YU7 vs Model Y contest, Xiaomi launched its cheaper YU7 Standard on 21 May 2026 as a direct answer to the Model Y, comparing the two on stage. Matched by drivetrain, the YU7 is the cheaper car in all four classes and has the longer CLTC range in all four. The last column is the Model Y price minus the YU7 price; a positive number means the YU7 is cheaper.

The YU7 GT (¥389,900, 705 km, 2.92 s) has no direct Tesla rival in China; the Model Y Performance is the closest at ¥369,000.

Battery size and efficiency

Xiaomi's comparison at the May 2026 launch pointed to the batteries: the entry Model Y has a 62.5 kWh pack and 593 km CLTC, the new YU7 Standard a 73.0 kWh pack and 643 km. The larger pack buys 50 km of rated range, but not as much as its 10.5 kWh suggests: the Model Y is rated about 9.5 km per kWh and the YU7 Standard about 8.8. Rated distance per kWh is only a guide, because it also depends on weight, drag and how each maker tunes the test cycle.

The same difference shows at the meter. A 20–80% charge of the YU7 Standard draws 47.6 kWh from the wall, the Model Y about 40.8 kWh, assuming 92% charging efficiency for both. At China home rates of ¥0.55/kWh that is 26.18 yuan against 22.42; on a US home tariff of $0.16/kWh, $7.62 against $6.52.

Import cost: the same trade-off outside China

Neither company sells a China-built car to private buyers abroad, so this is a what-if: the landed cost if you imported each car from China at its China list price, with the same shipping estimate and each country's duty and VAT, as in our import cost calculator. Most countries tax both cars alike, so the price gap simply grows with the tax. Germany is the exception. The EU's countervailing duty on China-built electric cars is 35.3% for Xiaomi, which is not on the list of cooperating exporters, and 7.8% for Tesla's Shanghai plant, so a Model Y pays 17.8% in duty and a YU7 45.3%.

In Germany that turns the China price gap of ¥30,000 in the YU7's favour into a landed-cost gap of €5,249 in the Model Y's favour (YU7 Standard €56,759, Model Y €51,511). Everywhere else in the table the YU7 keeps its lead at the bottom of the range.

Which one should you buy?

  • Buy the YU7 Standard over the entry Model Y if you want more rated range (643 km vs 593 km) and a larger car for ¥30,000 less, and you are buying in China.
  • Buy the YU7 Long Range if range per yuan matters most: 835 km CLTC for ¥253,500, against 821 km for ¥288,500 on the rear-drive Model Y Long Range, which is the quicker car to 100 km/h (5.6 s against 5.88 s).
  • Buy the YU7 Max or GT if acceleration and price at the top decide it: the Max reaches 100 km/h in 3.23 s and the GT in 2.92 s, against 3.5 s for the Model Y Performance.
  • Outside China, check local availability first: Xiaomi sells the YU7 only in mainland China, so abroad the choice is often a Model Y bought from Tesla against a YU7 bought through an importer.

YU7 vs Model Y: which has more range?
The YU7 Long Range is rated 835 km CLTC and the Model Y Long Range RWD 821 km. The entry YU7 is rated 643 km against 593 km for the entry Model Y.
YU7 vs Model Y: which is faster?
The YU7 Max does 0–100 km/h in 3.23 s and the GT in 2.92 s. The Model Y Performance takes 3.5 s and the Long Range AWD 4.3 s.
Is it cheaper to import a YU7 or a Model Y into Germany?
Because the EU charges 35.3% countervailing duty on Xiaomi and 7.8% on Tesla's Shanghai cars, a China-built Model Y RWD would land at about €51,511 against €56,759 for a YU7 Standard, on our what-if with 2026-09-25 exchange rates.
Can I buy a Xiaomi YU7 in the US instead of a Model Y?
No. Xiaomi does not sell cars in the US and a private import faces a 127.5% duty stack. On paper a YU7 Standard would cost about $81,779 landed, before sales tax.
